Make your own Coffee Table

Service Description

Handcraft your own unique coffee table to take home while learning some basic woodworking skills and the technique of casting jesmonite. The wood has been sourced locally from Aylesbury B+Q Offcuts (it was used for shelving in the store) and now you have the opportunity to upcycle the wood and give it a second lease of life in the form of legs for a coffee table! The coloured table top is made from Jesmonite. Jesmonite materials are water based making them kinder to the environment. They are is solvent-free and have no VOC’s, making them a more sustainable alternative to concrete. But most importantly you can use it to make some really fun and colourful designs for your home! During this creative workshop you will learn and practice the basics of woodworking, use various machines in the workshop (Bandsaw, Pillar Drill and Sanders) as well as learn about the material Jesmonite. You will make one small jesmonite pot as a tester and then craft your own bespoke Coffee Table to take home! You will be shown how to measure and mark up wood, cut using the bandsaw, sand wood using the hand sander and disc sander, create countersunk holes using the pillar drill and shown how to seal and paint MDF wood. You’ll be shown how to mix and cast Jesmonite into silicone moulds, using a range of techniques including Terrazzo and Marbling. You can choose which technique and make your own bespoke colour for the table top that matches your home decor or reflects your own creative expression. This workshop is around 3 hours long with a break in the middle. This will give you enough time to complete the table. The table size is approx: 22cm x 22cm x 49cm Join us at The Queens Park Art Centre in Aylesbury from 6pm – 9pm on Tuesday 13th December. All you need to do is turn up, we will provide the materials and equipment. All genders and abilities welcome. Please note that we don't send out physical tickets.
